OUR GRASSROOTS ADVISER

October 2020 Message

Dear Residents,

It’s been a whirlwind 3 months since I took on the Grassroots Advisor role for Nee Soon South, and I apologize for the long silence and a missing issue of the newsletter due to teething issues.

During this time, I have had the opportunity to get to know some of you through house visits, the usual Sunday morning coffeeshop breakfast, as well as zoom meetings in place of block parties due to Covid-19 restrictions. It has been a pleasure getting to know you, and many of you have shared about your struggles, your joy, as well as your aspirations.

For those who would like to get involved in the community on various causes, we have since launched a new Nee Soon Cares volunteering platform. Some programs being planned include:

  • elderly befriending and newspaper reading (a joint effort by our Senior Citizens Engagement Committee and young Nee Soon Cares volunteers)
  • a storytelling project which will be spearheaded by our Committee for Arts and Culture
  • Seniors Go Digital workshops by IMDA

I hope that through these initiatives, our young people and our seniors can enjoy more time together and get to know each other better.

I have also looked into some issues troubling residents, as well as our food delivery rider friends due to path congestion near MacDonald’s. Works will be starting soon to provide a separate path for the riders to access the orders waiting area without having to get onto the pedestrian walkway under the block, as well as more motorcycle parking nearby. I will continue to look into ways to safeguard lives as well as livelihoods for our residents so that everyone can have an easier time during this period of difficulty.

At the same time, for those who are facing employment challenges, do take time to fill in our Livelihood Survey so that we can know more about you, and facilitate suitable job opportunities to be brought here by E2i during the job fairs.

It is an honor and such a pleasure being a part of the Nee Soon South family, thank you for your support and I look forward to opportunities to meet you soon in person!

Warmest regards,

Carrie
